of NARI awarded Kingston Design Remodeling the highest level of recognition for a

NARI, Grand CotY Award, 2003
Historical Restoration
Kingston was awarded a 'Contractor of the Year' award for the restoration,
renovation, and expansion of an 1840's townhouse in Old Town Alexandria,
Virginia. The unstable rear section of the house was rebuilt with additional
space. The remaining interior was partially gutted (about 75%), stabilized, and
updated to include a new gourmet kitchen as well as guest rooms and bath. Care
was taken to re-use period moldings, hardware, and trim details, and to
painstakingly re-create such items where they were missing.

NARI, Merit CotY Award, 2001
Whole House Restoration
In the winter of 2001, Kingston was awarded
the Merit award in the category of 'entire home remodel.' The homeowners wanted
to preserve some aspects of their 1920's estate, but at the same time craved
modern conveniences and contemporary design. With the award-winning design of
Studio 27 Architecture, Kingston was able to accurately meet all needs. The
homeowners were able to showcase their antiques in several carefully restored
rooms of the home, and at the same time, revel in the sleekness of the ultra
modern new master suite and bath.

AIA Merit Award, Potomac Valley Chapter
John Burke and Tod Ray of Studio 27 Architecture along with Kingston Design
Remodleing were recognized in December of 2001 by the American Institute of
Architects with a Merit award. The stunning bathroom addition was described by
one juror as "a bold piece of artwork" and described the result as
"a
very successful knitting-together of new with existing elements." Another juror
found the project conceptually quite brilliant in terms of how it transitions an
existing traditional character into a strong contemporary language, and stated
"we enjoyed the skillful details inside and out, finding the result a rich
experience."

Builder Magazine, Special Focus Award, 2001
Kingston and Studio 27 Architecture were recognized in the October of 2001 issue
of Builder Magazine, the predominant industry publication. In conferring the
Special Focus Award, Builder Magazine noted that, "balancing the use of
wood, glass and steel to create a warm inviting space softens the industrial
look of this renovated owner's bath." The winning bath was part of a
luxurious master suite addition constructed over an existing two-car garage.
